What are the ingredients?

For this recipe, you only need 5 ingredients that are easy to find and most likely are in your house all the time.

  1. 10 g of black tea leaves (or green/jasmine tea)
  2. 30 g of tapioca pearls
  3. 300 ml of water
  4. 300 ml of milk (of your choice)
  5. 30-60 g of syrup

You can purchase black tea leaves on our KaTea site, or choose any other taste you might like. With this recipe, you will get 2 full-size servings.

This drink may be served as a snack when a friend comes over or at a family special occasion. Just calculate the quantities for the number of guests you are going to have.

How to choose the ingredients?

This recipe is very flexible. You can customize the flavor and the ingredients, as long as they are an alternative to the standard one.

Tea: For this drink, we recommend you to choose a strong flavored tea, like black tea or jasmine tea. Also, you can use tea bags, but preferably loose leaf tea.

Milk: Whole milk is a good choice when it comes to bubble tea. Changing this ingredient to an alternative that goes along with your values it’s good too. Soy milk or oat milk would work well, also any type of milk would be good to experiment if you are an adventurous person.

The Simple Syrup Recipe in 3 Steps:

You will need ½ cup of sugar and ½ cup of water.

  1. Boil the water first.
  2. Pour the sugar in a glass bottle or jar and then add the boiled water.
  3. Shake the bottle/jar very well. Then let it settle down for a few minutes.

Here you go! Simple and tasty.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tapioca balls: Soak about 30 g of tapioca pearls in water overnight, 10 to 12 hours.
  2. Prepare the tea and milk: Boil 10 g of black tea in 300 ml of water for 1 to 2 minutes. Then add 300 ml of milk to the tea. Wait until it boils and then turn off the heat. Rinse the boiled ingredients.
  3. Cook the tapioca: Boil the tapioca pearls for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse them and let them cool off.
  4. Put the drink together: Pour the tapioca pearls in a cup and add the syrup. Then, add the rest of the ingredients. You can drink the bubble tea with straws or as usual.
  5. Enjoy your Homemade Bubble Tea!

Notes

  1. If you prefer cold drinks, add some ice cubes to the bubble tea. For the ice to not spoil the taste, freeze some milk ice cubes and add them instead.
  2. As an alternative to tea leaves, you can use 5 tea bags, this equals 10 g of loose leaf tea.
  3. When drinking the Bubble Tea, choose an extra-wide straw. You can order it online or buy it at an Asian store.
